About RightsAtlas
RightsAtlas exists because "is this public domain?" has been answered badly on the internet for twenty years — with unsourced lists, one-click green checkmarks, and copied errors. We answer it the slow way: layer by layer, with evidence on the page.
Who makes this
RightsAtlas is researched and maintained by Bit Git, a public-domain researcher and the maker of a classic-film video channel, with AI-assisted tooling for research assembly, link-health checking, and site maintenance (disclosed by design). Every verdict is grounded in the documented rules and sources listed on each page — never in a model's opinion.
Why trust it
Three reasons, all structural: our build system refuses to publish a "verified" claim without a citation; every page carries its last-verified date; and our incentives are aligned with caution, not clicks — we use this research ourselves before reusing any film.

Corrections with primary evidence are gold — send them. Reach us via the channel or the repository linked in the footer. If you're a journalist covering Public Domain Day, ask us for the dataset.
