Background
The Thief of Bagdad is a 1924 American silent fantasy adventure directed by Raoul Walsh and produced by and starring Douglas Fairbanks, released through United Artists. Freely adapted from the One Thousand and One Nights, its enormous studio sets and elaborate special effects made it one of the most expensive and visually ambitious films of the silent era; it was selected for the National Film Registry in 1996. Published in 1924, the film print's 95-year US copyright term has expired, placing the photoplay in the public domain by term expiry.
